TIMELY NOTIFICATION OF CRIME
[34 C.F.R. § 668.46(e)] requires the timely notification of the campus community in the event of a incident involving criminal homicide, murder, non-negligent manslaughter, negligent manslaughter, sex offenses (forcible and non-forcible), robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, motor vehicle theft and arson.
HFCC POLICY
It is the policy of Henry Ford Community College to notify the college community by any means that is electronic (email, voice mail, text messaging, etc) and through the use of postings, memos and/or other means of communication as available in a timely and prudent manner. Notifications will be done through the Office of Campus Safety.

Clery Act
Annual Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Through 2006
I. Reporting of Criminal Activity and/or Emergencies
Crimes must be reported to the Office of Campus Safety by students and employees to ensure inclusion in the annual crime statistics and to provide timely warning notices to the college community. OCS is responsible for security and emergency response at Henry Ford Community College. Officers are also stationed at the Dearborn Heights Campus. Marked emergency phones are located in buildings on campus or the Office of Campus Safety can be reached 24 hours per day at: 313-845-9630. (Ext. 9911 if on campus).
II. Security and Access to Campus Facilities
Henry Ford Community College maintains a full-time security department. Access to facilities and buildings is controlled by electronic and mechanical access control, electronic alarm systems, active security patrols and electronic and physical surveillance.
III. Police Liaison and Security Authority
The Office of Campus Safety maintains a regular and ongoing working relationship with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies through regular meetings and participation in professional associations. Campus Safety Officers do not have police authority.
IV. Crime Prevention & Security Awareness Programs
Students and employees are made aware of campus crime through the publishing of annual crime statistics, a daily log, and through the distribution and posting of timely bulletins and alerts. Students and employees are provided crime prevention and awareness programs such as the Campus Watch Program, annual crime reports, distribution of materials such as brochures, memos, newspaper articles, the Safe Walk program, and regularly scheduled lectures and presentations.
V. Off Campus Student Organizations & Criminal Activity
Criminal activity of off-campus student organizations is monitored by close liaison with the appropriate law enforcement agency.
VI. Alcoholic Beverages and Illegal Drugs
The distribution, possession, and/or use of controlled substances, illicit drugs, and alcohol which are deemed illegal under local, state and federal law is prohibited on the campus of Henry Ford Community College. Any persons violating these statues will be subject to disciplinary and/or criminal proceedings. Alcohol and drug awareness information and counseling is available through the Counseling Office.
VII. Sexual Assault
It is the policy of Henry Ford Community College to make all responsible efforts to maintain a campus environment free from sexual assault.
In accordance with 20 USC S109, HFCC has established the following programs to prevent sexual assault and procedures to follow should an assault occur.
Educational Programs
- Programs include publications, videos, and seminars to promote awareness of sexual assault and other sex offences.
- Information is available to students and employees, submitted to college newspapers and published in appropriate publications.
Reporting Procedures
- All sexual assaults occurring on campus should be reported to both the Office of Campus Safety and local law enforcement authorities as soon as possible because of the importance of preserving evidence to prove sexual assault.
- Campus authorities will notify proper law enforcement authorities when advised of a sexual assault.
- In addition to appropriate criminal charges, sexual assaults committed by students will be referred to the Dean of Students for disciplinary action in accordance with the college’s Student Due Process procedure.
- Assaults by employees will be referred to the Office of Human Resources. Sanctions for both may include permanent removal from the college.
Campus Disciplinary Actions in Cases of Alleged Sexual Assault.
- The accuser and accused are entitled to the same opportunities to have others present during a campus disciplinary proceeding.
- Both the accuser and accused shall be informed of the outcome of any campus disciplinary proceeding alleging sexual assault.
Counseling and Other Services Available to Victims
- Students and employees may obtain counseling assistance or referrals from the Counseling Office or Focus on Women Office.
- Employees may obtain referral to the Employee Assistance Program through the Human Resources Office.
VIII. Sexual Offender Reporting Act
Convicted sexual offenders are required to report to local law enforcement when working at and/or attending college or university. Information about registered sex offenders is available from the Dearborn or Dearborn Heights Police. The Michigan State Police maintains a sex offender search website at:

IX. Crime Statistics
Statistics are required by October 1 annually and include the previous three calendar years. They include incidents reported to local law enforcement and internal disciplinary proceedings. All incidents are reported through the Office of Campus Safety. This brochure is distributed to all students and employees and is available upon request or on the OCS web page:

**Crimes 1-8 above, involving bodily injury in which the victim is intentionally selected because of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or disability.
The Clery Act requires statistical categories not found in this brochure. HFCC has no stats that fit within those categories therefore they are not applicable. Since HFCC has no on-campus housing, dorms or other housing or off campus facilities or property, for use by, or used by, students or student organizations they are not included.
